I mean this in the non-Britney Spears way.
Season’s Greetings!
Rain in the city, on a Christmas morn.
Early rose the girl with the hair shortly shorn.
She put on some music, wrapped last minute gifts,
Went down to make coffee (a slight morning lift).
Her family a-bustle, the pets zip around,
Anticipation evident, with every sound.
At last the time came! We gave what we’d made,
we’d bought, and we’d searched for,
we’d earned and we’d played.
When wrapping was scattered, ‘round floor and in chairs,
we hugged and we thanked, our love that we shared.
Now onto the parties, with peers and old friends,
we’ll share in a drink, with a movie to attend.
Who knows what the rest of the holiday will hold,
but today I am grateful for not the ‘bought and sold’.
(All of that is nice, to pretend t’would make me a fool,
but it will not suffice, not even on Yule).
My gratitude lies in those whose lives are in mine,
whether from school or at work, or by blood intertwined,
Together we build something, a life we can share,
and we make living better, by showing we care.
